Marcin Wasilewski Trio

Marcin Wasilewski Trio (Marcin Wasilewski – leader, piano, Sławomir Kurkiewicz – contrabass, Michał Miśkiewicz – percussion) is the most famous Polish jazz trio in the world and the only fully Polish band working with the most important jazz record label – ECM Records from Munich.

Marcin Wasilewski Trio combines the grand jazz traditions with modernity, in a form most demanding, but also crucial to modern jazz – a piano trio tenet, and in doing so manages to create its own distinctive sound. They are one of the most consistently developing band of the Polish scene. Regarded as one of the most prominent and unique jazz formation of its generation, they are well recognized both on the national and foreign music scenes. In 2014 the band celebrated its 20th anniversary of playing in an unwavering squad. In October that year they released an album titled “Spark of Life”, the fourth recorded for ECM, the eighth in the band’s career (with phenomenal success, as just within 6 weeks, the album was certified gold in Poland). Since that time, after a very successful tour of Poland, the band has visited South America, Asia and of course, Europe. In 2016 the band is going to continue with the album’s promotion, performing at festivals in Poland, Europe, the USA, Canada and Australia. At the concert in Szczecin the audience will probably get the chance to listen to the best tracks from that album. Marcin Wasilewski Trio performs on stage as one organism and can, as very few do, keep the audience under a spell, building amazing intensity moment by  moment, which truly confirms their artistic craftsmanship. That is why one should not miss this concert.

The latest album (“Spark of Life”) was awarded with all important national jazz distinctions: just six weeks after its release it was certified Gold in Poland. It received very high ratings thanks to the votes of readers in the annual survey JAZZ TOP of the Jazz Forum magazine, earning the title of Album of the Year 2014 and Acoustic Band of the Year 2014. In April 2015 the Phonographic Academy awarded Marcin Wasilewski with the Fryderyk Music Award in the BEST ARTIST / Jazz category and the band’s latest album was awarded first place in the best JAZZ ALBUM of the year category (already third award of this kind for the band and eighth in the career of Marcin Wasilewski). The only persona in the Polish jazz world who can compete with the band as it comes to the number of awards and distinctions is Tomasz Stańko (with one Golden Fryderyk).

At the end of November 2014, just six weeks after its release, the album was certified gold in Poland, and it received very high ratings thanks to the votes of readers in the annual survey Jazz Top of the Jazz Forum magazine, earning the title Album of the Year 2014 and Acoustic Band of the Year 2014.

And it is with this very man, Tomasz Stańko, the Trio’s musicians have created a splendid quartet that recorded albums for ECM and performed all over the world. Members of MWTrio have also collaborated with some big jazz stars like: Jan Garbarek, Gianluigi Trovesi, John Surman, Louis Sclavis, Arthur Blythe, Joe Lovano, Bernt Rosengren, Dino Saluzzi, Bobo Stenson, Anders Jormin, Manu Katché and Jon Christensen. The frontman – Marcin Wasilewski is a pianist recognised not only by jazz fans – in 2005 he was voted the ‘rising star’ of jazz pianism by renowned jazz experts and critics in the poll of the prestigious American jazz magazine Down Beat.
